FMP - Proposal

Proposal

FMP started 19/03/2018
Introduction: In my FMP I would like to create an Ep with songs that are a mix of acoustic and digital instruments .  I would like to make 4 different songs, that sound like they're a similar style and flow together nicely. I'd like to have a live sound for the first 2 songs preferably focusing around an acoustic guitar. They might have lyrics on them and they might not. I haven't decided this yet. The next songs I want to include an electric guitar in them and the rest of the music is digitally created with samples and logic.

Context : As a guitarist, having a guitar in my music allows me to show off my main talents and interests. It means I can give the song my own flavour and style. Most of the music I've made by myself has been on guitar whether it be chord sequences or riffs I've came up with.  But I would also like to start getting to know how to use the digital instruments in logic so my primary goal is to work with Dean on getting a nice digital sound.

Outline Research: My research is going to fall into 3 primary categories(I will probably go outside of these limits but this is the general idea of it) 1) I will watch a lot of interviews of my influences and find out what makes them come up with their sound(effects) and how they work in a studio as this is going to be my primary focus in future projects. 2) Song structure is another focus of mine as that adds to a lot of the emotion of the music as a song builds and builds. Its important for the sort of music I'm going to make. 3) I will look heavily into sampling as out of the two genres I enjoy one of them relies very heavily on sampling(old school hip hop). So I intend to see how different artists use sampling to they're benefit and do the same in my music.

Case Studies: The album Oracular Spectacular is going to play a big part in inspiring my music. This is because of the use of effects in all their songs. This video of the group recording "Electric Feel" shows you the different roots of the song and how they all end up coming together.

I will also be doing a case study on sampling. As I've already mentioned old school hip hop is one of my most listened to genres so sampling plays a big part in my music experience. This video shows you an early picture of what sampling was like before laws and regulations got implemented into the world of music.

My final case study will be on Noel Gallagher and how he can convert one of his original songs into an acoustic song and give it a completely different feel. He is also very good at using very basic chords and turning them into anthems and this is also something that I'd like to look into whilst researching him. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get around to turning my songs into acoustic versions of themselves but it is definitely something I'd like to attempt. This video of Noel doing MTV unplugged is a perfect example of how he can take his songs and make it feel completely new again.
Methodology: In order to achieve all of this I need to be able to use the studios consistently and efficiently. Booking the production studios out with Dean is my primary focus as the majority of my music is going to be made on logic. Then booking the recording studios out to put any drums(played by Joseph) and other instruments over the tracks. So a lot of my work is going to evolve around being organised and clear with people. I need to make sure people are free when I need them.

Timeline:
Week 1: Proposal
Week 2: Get 5 bits of research done and get an idea of the sound of my tracks through said research
Week 3: Do 1 case study
Week 4: Start to record guitars and drums for my one of my tracks
Spring break: Make a song with Zeff
Week 5: Do a cover
Week 6: Do another case study
Week 7: Make my last 2 songs in this week
Week 8: Refine all my music for the deadline.
Week 9 Hand in all my work on time and begin to look over all my written work.
Week 10: Similar to week 8 this week should be spent refining everything.
