EXP Proposal

EXP Proposal

For my EXP I will be making an EP consisting of 4 or 5 tracks all produced and mixed by me. These tracks will be a mixture of different genres(indie and trap mainly) which is going to be a key area of research in my project as a whole. I would like to get my own vocals on a couple of the tracks and collaborate with other people in my class on a lot of the tracks as I work better with a group of people rather than individually. I want all the tracks to be completely original but I am considering having one cover on it because I like the idea of reworking songs.

I think making a full EP is a good choice for me as a musician as I haven't released any form of my music publically yet so I think that's a good step in the right direction. I need to get used to dedicating time towards a project if I'm attempting to become an artist so I want this project to be beneficial for me. I don't need it to be a properly released as I have no other work to back it up yet, so any form of promotion outside of telling people I know about it would feel pointless, I just think it would be a step in the right direction to solidifying my confidence in my music and then also give me an idea of where I am headed sonically.  I've spent a lot of my time at college focusing on live sound and synthesis so I want to incorporate those 2 elements into being a key part of my project.

I am planning to research a couple of artists who have impacted my music recently and will probably inspire some of the sounds for my album. A couple of these artists include Kevin Abstract, Gus Dapperton, and Boy Pablo. As well as this I will be researching artists who are able to mix genres and jump from genre to genre consistently and maintain the same success. A few of the artists I will be researching for this part will be The Beatles, David Bowie, and Radiohead. I would also like to look more in-depth into microphone quality and what types are good for certain sounds and frequencies.

I plan to be more organized with this project than I was with last years FMP as I struggled to hit the deadline last year. This means me sticking to a schedule, making sure I book a studio at least once a week and record and mix as much stuff as I can at home with my guitar and drums.  I have also made sure I know who I'm collaborating with before I've started the project to make sure there aren't any issues halfway through recording a track. A lot of the people I will be working with will follow a similar timetable to me so I will have at least one day in the week where I can book out a recording studio or have someone around my house to record.

Week 1 :
Get 1 song recorded and structured at least
Research Kevin Abstract and Brockhampton

Week 2 :
Mix the song from the previous week and add vocals(possibly record tracks for next week if studio is booked)
Research 6 different mics as well as their polar patterns and frequency range

Week 3 :
Finish recording the 2nd track and possibly begin mixing
Research The Beatles and how they shifted from pop to psychedelic music

Week 4 :
Finish mix of 2nd song and record 3rd song
Research Radiohead and how they mix genres and create alternative sounds

Week 5 :
Mix 3rd song and record 4th song

Week 6 :
Record 5th and 6th song
Research David Bowie and how he consistently reinvented himself and his music.

Week 7 :
Mix 5th and 6th song
Research Gus Dapperton and his use of synthesizers in his music as well as Boy Pablo

Week 8 :
Record final song
Mix final song

Week 9 :
Brush up on any bits of research and make sure nothing is missing
Listen to tracks and make sure everything sounds good

Week 10 :
If there is something missing from the tracks I will add them during this week whether it be effects wise or having to go studio to record a drum track.
