Funky Junk - Individual presentation
This term i've been focusing on improving my skills when using logic. I wouldn't say I'm excelling in logic as i still frequently struggle using it but I have definitely improved since when i started. This means adding effects such as reverb and compression to my tracks, or changing the EQ of certain regions of the track. I have also improved in sampling using the EXS24 sampler and incorporating drum samples into my library. One thing I'd like to start doing when using Logic is making a track around a sample. Whether this be piano, drum, guitar etc samples pulled from songs. I'd like to do this as I think sampling is an important part of the modern music industry. I got better at using logic as I've been using the studio more and getting to know the programme better at home.
I would like to collaborate with someone making an acoustic hip hop Ep, i think it would be good for me to work with a couple different people as i work well in groups. I can use the skills I learnt in my studio lessons with Grant (such as setting up mics and understanding what mics work best with which instruments depending on the sound your looking for) to record live instruments with digital drums on logic to make several different tracks. I'd personally like to use a mixture of acoustic and electric guitars with a reverb pedal and my use a few other pedals that I have.
Next term I'd like to focus on my DJing skills as I feel like I enjoy researching and watching DJs but I just don't get it practically. I struggle to DJ any of the music I enjoy as a lot of the songs I like have vocals on it and follows a typical verse, chorus structure meaning its hard to beat match any of the songs because the lyrics will end up overlapping each other in a few bars.
I feel like even though I'm a production student, guitar is the primary reason i'm into music. So for me personally I'd like to be able to incorporate guitars into my beats more as it isn't an instrument that's focused much on in hip-hop meaning it's bringing something different into my music. This is something that gives me an advantage as I can listen to my own songs and bring a different feel to it and even play on other peoples songs.
