The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
The self-titled album The Stone Roses is to many one of the best albums to come out of the 80s and England in general. The Stone Roses formed in 1983 when the Madchester movement was in full swing. Great bands were coming out of Manchester consistently in the 80s and 90s but bands like The Smiths, Joy Division and The Stone Roses were considered the main contributors that paved the way for bands that came about later like Oasis. Ian Brown and John Squire gave their listeners creative lyrics and jingly guitar riffs that continue to impress people today due to how complex some are. Then you had Mani on bass and Reni on drums who added a funky and dance feel to the music that allowed more people to listen and take part in the music. Fools Gold is a good example of this idea, it features drums that have a nice groove as well as a bassline that just seems to get better and is instantly recognisable.
The artwork for the album is another thing that makes it iconic as it features a painting that was done by John Squire and heavily inspired by Jackson Pollock. Messy and colourful similar to The Stone Roses themselves, the album cover became a part of what made The Stone Roses so unique.

Tracklist:
I Wanna Be Adored
She Bangs the Drum
Waterfall
Don't Stop
Bye Bye Badman
Elizabeth My Dear
(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister
Made of Stone
Shoot You Down
This is the One
I Am The Resurrection
The Stone Roses also became known for being arrogant due to song names like I wanna be adored and I am The Resurrection. Another factor that contributed to this arrogant persona would be how difficult they were during interviews giving cocky and humorous responses to a few questions but most were followed by mumbling and silence. This confidence was backed up by the albums attitude and overall vibe.
Songs like Waterfall and Made of Stone are examples of Ian Browns imaginative and meaningful lyrics that made The Stone Roses so loved in England. But its songs like I Am The Resurrection that really cemented the band as a legendary band in music history. The drums are loud and make it sound like the songs has a message and the bassline is consistent bouncy but its really the lyrics and guitar riffs that make this the standout song on the album. Both the vocals and the guitar add all the buildup to the song whether it be Ian Browns passionate singing declaring he's the resurrection or John Squires smooth and melodic guitar riff that carries the song into the final chorus which is followed by a roughly 4 minute long guitar solo and jam session.
